Harmonics Chart

For those unfamiliar, harmonic charts offer a way to see the underlying patterns in a horoscope. It is a sub-horoscope which can help to reveal horoscope aspects which otherwise often remain hidden. For me the real beauty of harmonic charts is the surprising insights that they show us.  Harmonic chart work actually shows us that incarnation has this other dimension - cosmos/chaos. They add information to interpretation only in the sense that they reveal the hidden - or occult. The harmonic is kind of a lens through which you can read something about a person. For example, the septile supposedly indicates inspiration plus discipline, and is common in charts of members of the clergy and composers. It seems to be a more spiritual aspect. So if you want to know about someone's spirituality or creative inspiration, run the 7th harmonic chart. Hard aspects will show what is challenging or difficult in this domain for the person, and the trines will show what flows easily for them. A strong 4th harmonic indicates above all the challenge of self-integration but also the strive for concrete success. A strong 5th harmonic is above all linked to an active, constructive and formative approach to the world of form. The 7th harmonic emphasizes the artist, the creative person. But the 7th harmonic is also more strongly associated with criminal behavior. A strong 9th harmonic indicates idealistic, religious and at times paranormal capabilities. The 9th harmonic is associated with wisdom and composure. I use harmonic charts extensively, especially the 8th and the 16th.  I sometimes use the 32nd and the 4th. These all represent depictions of the 'hard' manifesting qualities in the original birth chart. I would suggest that the 8th harmonic chart is actually a more insightful portrayal of the natal chart than the natal chart itself.  

The most commonly used are the 5th, 7th, and 9th harmonics.

Age Harmonics: your basic forecasting chart, looking out a year into the future. Age harmonics are one of the most accurate forms of astrological divination.

Examples:

The Thirteenth Harmonic:  relates to death and rebirth, transformation, as well as group resources and values.

The Fourth Harmonic:  shows how we deal with stress, strain, and struggle. Whole patterns of stress aspects can be spotted.

The Fifth Harmonic: The 5th harmonic chart indicates talent, if any.  Apollonian, social, conservative, balanced, harmonious, inclusive, ego, stability, static, constructive, conforming aspects. The principle of order. Squares in the fifth: challenges or obstructions in the manifestation of order, spur to the manifestation of order. Connected to the qualities that make us human, i.e., the five senses and one’s talents and creative or scientific abilities. Talent and power, and show our ability to put things together (pattern recognition). It also has to do with creative play, the joy of making up games of finding patterns (like looking for “patterns” of cracks in the ceiling, or always stepping on cracks in the sidewalk, or always avoiding the cracks). People with strong 5th harmonics do things like that all the time. Of course, taken to the extreme, this is a mental disorder, but those with a strong 5th harmonic usually manage to keep it under control, and then it becomes the basis for creative talent. You don’t need a strong 5th harmonic to succeed as an artist, designer, scientist, or engineer, but it really helps. Represents order (cosmos). Shows pulses of activity.

The 7th Harmonic: has to do with inspiration, with what inspires us and how we can inspire others. This is an important ingredient of creativity. Dionysian, anti-social, radical, unbalanced, disharmonious, exclusive, id, instability, ecstatic, destructive, rebellious aspects. The principle of disorder. Squares in the seventh: sources of profound psychological resistance or challenge, destructive elements or impulses within the personality. Has had many speculative interpretations, including artistry and music, though some see it as connecting to chaotic or unusual worldly events. Man’s highest flights of creative imagination, and his lowest depths of destructive illusion. It is a report not of permanence, but of transience; not of unchanging truth, but of sudden flashes of light and darkness; not of objective reality, but of subjective impressions and the emotional experience which man derives from those impressions; not of knowledge, but of fantasy. It is, in short, a romantic number. Represents disorder (chaos). Often used for financial pursuits by ‘wall streeters’ or the bond market.

The Ninth Harmonic:  a person’s capacity for joy and happiness, it shows the person’s capacity to spread joy and happiness to those around them. The ninefold division of the chart, the 9th harmonic, corresponds to the novile (40º) aspect, used extensively in Vedic astrology. How we can be at peace, it can also show blockages to being at peace. There does seem to be a more fated quality about the events that occur. It does seem to relate more to "hereditary" qualities than ones acquired by education. It does not seem too often to be accidental. Births, deaths, marriages, arrests. Tends to relate to "inevitable" events.  They can't be avoided. That 9th contact between two charts could be either a "soul-mate" or a destructive obsession. Hindu astrologers say that the 9th harmonic is to the birth chart as the fruit is to the tree from which it grows. In other words, the ninth harmonic shows the future – what we are headed toward, what we are producing, what we are becoming. It is the goal of our chart. 

The Eleventh Harmonic: This one shows pure imagination, fantasy. Sometimes this stays inside in our own private little world. Every now and then, we let it out. The results vary. We can get a beautiful dream made real, or a nightmare of horror.

Second Harmonic: material circumstances. Trines in the second: the spiritual significance of circumstances, path of wealth creation. Represents matter, yang, outer self, manifests, material, hard aspects, active, immanent, masculine aspects. 

The 3rd Harmonic: represents spirit, yin, receptiveness, inner self, transcendent aspects, feminine, soft, passive aspects.
